🔑 Moving Out in Germany: Will You Lose Your Deposit? | German Podcast A2–B1
Are you planning to move out of an apartment in Germany?
Then you need to understand words such as Kündigung, Kündigungsfrist, Wohnungsübergabe, Übergabeprotokoll and Kaution.
In this episode of Deutsch Podcast 101 FM, Emil and Sophia explain the German language you need to terminate a rental agreement, prepare for an apartment handover and return your keys.
But shortly before the handover, Sophia discovers a scratch near the living-room door. Will she lose part of her deposit—or can the old handover report prove that the scratch was already there?
You will learn how to:
• terminate a rental agreement in writing
• ask when your tenancy officially ends
• arrange an apartment handover
• talk about scratches and other damage
• record meter readings
• request a copy of the handover report
• confirm that you returned all keys
• ask when your security deposit will be returned

„Der Kratzer war schon beim Einzug da.“
The scratch was already there when I moved in.
„Der Schaden steht im alten Übergabeprotokoll.“
The damage is recorded in the old handover report.
„Bitte tragen Sie den Schaden ins Übergabeprotokoll ein.“
Please record the damage in the handover report.
„Könnten Sie mir bitte eine Kopie des Übergabeprotokolls geben?“
Could you please give me a copy of the handover report?
