Building Cities from Cities: Alfonso Paradinas Aguilera, Holcim, on Recycled Cement Paste
Episode von Concretely von Johannes · 21. Juli 2026 · 45 min
Cement causes 8% of global CO2 emissions — and fly ash and slag, the industry's usual fixes, are running out as coal plants and blast furnaces disappear. Alfonso Paradinas Aguilera, Global Chief Marketing & Innovation Officer at Holcim, explains how construction demolition materials become a clinker substitute: smart crushing separates cement paste from aggregate, carbonation turns the fines into a carbon sink, and performance-based specification makes it viable for exposed infrastructure. We also cover Zurich's recycled-content procurement rules, Holcim's EcoPlanet and EcoCycle platforms, and CPC — a carbon-fiber-reinforced concrete used in five prefabricated bridges this year.
